A good post discussing the need for copyright reform here in the United States and abroad – who will win the tug of war between content providers who want carte blanche power to shut down individuals merely suspected of the piracy and the technology companies that provide access? Or is there some middle ground where we can update copyright law to keep pace with rapidly changing technology and provide protection to authors and creators? We see a relentless effort by content providers both domestically and through international treaties to restrict access to the Internet and “police” it but we have seen some significant wins for fair use over the past year so let’s keep working toward finding a balance where copyright promotes learning and progress ahead of more narrow interests.
